Overview

The QNAP TR‑004‑US is a 4‑bay Direct Attached Storage (DAS) enclosure with hardware RAID support, designed to expand storage for PCs and compatible NAS systems via a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type‑C interface. It targets deployment scenarios where additional high‑capacity external storage and RAID protection are required without integrating new internal drive bays.

Four hot‑swappable 3.5″/2.5″ SATA drive bays support a range of drives and multiple RAID modes (Individual, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1/10, and RAID 5) for balancing performance, capacity, and data protection. A hardware RAID controller enables RAID configuration via DIP switches or software utilities connected over USB.

Connectivity is provided by a single USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type‑C port (5 Gbps) with an included USB‑C to USB‑A adapter cable, allowing attachment to a PC or NAS. A built‑in cooling fan manages thermal conditions during extended operations.

The tower‑style enclosure (approx. 6.3″ W × 6.6″ H × 8.6″ D) and external power adapter make this unit suitable for desks, IT closets, or storage expansion racks where direct USB connectivity is acceptable. It integrates with Windows, macOS, Linux, and a variety of NAS systems for general data storage, backup, and archive capacities.
